He says you do not want to be around people who cannot use small talk - it's value is that it uses very little energy, it can convey your mood quickly based on your tone ... "I'm fine!" vs "I'm FINE." It is a fast indicator of someone with good social skills, as they do not just meet someone and jump right into heavy topics. He says small talk is a base skill from childhood, as children begin play with new playmates by starting out with the most simple games, then they gradually ratchet up their play styles into more complexity until they meet a level of play that meets their mates skill level. In this way, small talk is a fast and simple way that people use to feel each other out as an entry level to further engagement.

Seems to make sense from a purely biological sociology viewpoint.DMRnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485583244199236996.post-84874895331889993042021-12-27T02:10:42.365-08:002021-12-27T02:10:42.365-08:00My 85 year old aunt gave me a few years ago a hone...My 85 year old aunt gave me a few years ago a honest answer to the question "How are you": "Ahhhh ... shitty!".Bodhisatta969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485583244199236996.post-29616548993404134192021-12-20T10:16:20.563-08:002021-12-20T10:16:20.563-08:00It's possible that I was clinically depressed ...It's possible that I was clinically depressed during my youth, but in those days therapy was a source of shame. Anyhoo, when people who barely knew me said howsitgoin, I'd start pouring out my heart and they'd excuse themselves, run away, and never be heard from again. Needless to say, I didn't date much.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485583244199236996.post-47598869481371301732021-12-19T17:25:36.850-08:002021-12-19T17:25:36.850-08:00"Pardon me.
